 13 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ, ਖਜੂਰੀ ਐਤਵਾਰ

 

 Procession:

ਲੂਕਾ 19: 28-40

²⁸ ਯਿਸੂ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਵਧੇ ਅਤੇ ਯੇਰੂਸ਼ਲੇਮ ਵੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਚਲ ਪਏ।

²⁹ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਬੇਤਫਾਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਤਨੀਯਾ ਦੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਜੈਤੂਨ ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੋ ਨੂੰ ਘੱਲਿਆ
³⁰ ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, “ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਓ, ਉੱਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹੀ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇੱਕ ਵਛੇਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਵੇਖੋਗੇ, ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਸਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੈਠਿਆ। ਉਸਨੂੰ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਇੱਥੇ ਲੈ ਆਓ।
³¹ ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛੇ, ‘ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ?’ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਕਹਿਣਾ, ‘ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ’।”
³² ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਭੇਜੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
³³ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਵਛੇਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਮਾਲਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵਛੇਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ?’
³⁴ ਤਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ।’
³⁵ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਛੇਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਯਿਸੂ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਆਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਿਛਾ ਕੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
³⁶ ਜਿਉਂ-ਜਿਉਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ, ਤਿਉਂ-ਤਿਉਂ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਸੜਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਿਛਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
³⁷ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਨੇੜੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਜੈਤੂਨ ਪਹਾੜ ਦੀ ਢਲ਼ਾਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਤਮਾਮ ਭੀੜ ਅਨੰਦਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਮਹਾਨ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ, ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖੇ ਸਨ, ਉੱਚੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੀ।
³⁸ ਉਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ‘ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਰਾਜਾ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ! ਸੁਰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚਿਆਈਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਹਿਮਾ!’
³⁹ ਭੀੜ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ, ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਜੋ!’
⁴⁰ ਉਸਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹ ਚੁੱਪ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਬੋਲ ਪੈਣਗੇ।’

 

Or ਮਰਕੁਸ 11:1-10

 ¹ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਯੇਰੂਸ਼ਲੇਮ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੈਤੂਨ ਪਹਾੜ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਬੇਤਫਾਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਤਨੀਯਾ ਆਏ ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਘੱਲਿਆ
 ² ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਇੱਕ ਵਛੇਰਾ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ, ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਕਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਸਨੂੰ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਆਓ।
 ³ ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਹੇ, ‘ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ?’ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਕਹਿਣਾ, ‘ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਸ ਘੱਲ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ’।”
 ⁴ ਉਹ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੀ ਸੜਕ ਤੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਅੱਗੇ, ਇੱਕ ਵਛੇਰਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਲਿਆ।
 ⁵ ਤਦ ਉੱਥੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ, ਵਛੇਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਦੇ ਹੋ?”
 ⁶ ਤਦ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜੋ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
 ⁷ ਉਹ ਵਛੇਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਲਿਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਿਛਾਏ। ਯਿਸੂ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
 ⁸ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਸੜਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਿਛਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੱਤਿਆਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਟਹਿਣੀਆਂ ਵਿਛਾਈਆਂ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਉਹ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵੱਢ ਲਿਆਏ ਸਨ।
 ⁹ ਉਸਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਹ ਨਾਅਰੇ ਮਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ:

“ਹੋਸੱਨਾਹ, ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ!

 ¹⁰ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਸਾਡੇ ਪਿਤਾ, ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ!

ਉੱਚਿਆਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਸੱਨਾਹ।”

 

 ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਾਠ

 ਯਸ਼ਾਯਾਹ 50:4-7

 ⁴ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਵਰ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਥੱਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਕੀ ਕਹਾਂ। ਹਰ ਸਵੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਲਈ ਉਤਾਵਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
 ⁵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾ ਵਿਦਰੋਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਮੋੜਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
 ⁶ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਨੰਗਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਅਪਮਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਲ ਪੁੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਥੁੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।
 ⁷ ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਪਮਾਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਵਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਅਪਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਝਲਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵਾਂਗਾ।

 

 ਜ਼ਬੂਰ 22:8-9, 17-18, 19-20, 23-24 (A-51)

ਇਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਵੇ, ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲੇ।

 

 ਦੂਸਰਾ ਪਾਠ

 ਫਿਲਿੱਪੀਆਂ 2:6-11

 ⁶ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਪ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੀ;

ਪਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨੂੰ,

ਅਜਿਹੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ,

ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜਿਆਂ ਰਹੇ,

 ⁷ ਸਗੋਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਲੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਇੱਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਿਆ

ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸੂਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ,

 ⁸ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਮਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਤਕ, ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ,

ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਕਿ ਸਲੀਬੀ ਮੌਤ ਤਕ।

 ⁹ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਨੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਰੁਤਬਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਬੁਲੰਦ ਕੀਤਾ;

ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ,

ਜੋ ਸਭ ਨਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ,

 ¹⁰ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਉੱਤੇ

ਹਰ ਗੋਡਾ ਟੇਕਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ

ਚਾਹੇ ਉਹ ਆਸਮਾਨ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੇ,

ਅਤੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਜਮੀਨ ਉੱਤੇ

ਅਤੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਜਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਥੱਲੇ।

¹¹ ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਬਾਪ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਲਈ ਹਰ ਜੀਭ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕਰੇ

ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਮਸੀਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ।

 

 ਜੈਕਾਰਾ (ਫਿਲਿੱਪੀਆਂ 2:8-9)

ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਮਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਤਕ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ, ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਕਿ ਸਲੀਬੀ ਮੌਤ ਤਕ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਨਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ।

 

 ਅੰਜੀਲ

 ਲੂਕਾ 22:14-23:56

 ¹⁴ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਘੜੀ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ ਉਹ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰਸੂਲ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠੇ।
 ¹⁵ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਦਿਲੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਿਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਪਾਸਕਾ-ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਾਂ
 ¹⁶ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ, ਮੈਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਵਾਂਗਾ।’
 ¹⁷ ਫਿਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਇਹ ਲਵੋ ਅਤੇ ਆਪੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਵੰਡ ਲਵੋ।
 ¹⁸ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਅੰਗੂਰ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਪੈਦਾਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੀਵਾਂਗਾ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਆ ਨਾ ਜਾਵੇ।’
 ¹⁹ ਫਿਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਰੋਟੀ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਅਦ, ਤੋੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ‘ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ।’
 ²⁰ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਅਦ, ਉਸਨੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ‘ਇਹ ਪਿਆਲਾ, ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਵਹਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਲਹੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਵਾਂ ਨੇਮ ਹੈ।
 ²¹ ਪਰ ਵੇਖੋ, ਉਸਦਾ ਹੱਥ, ਜੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਘਾਤੀ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਜ਼ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੈ।
 ²² ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤਾਂ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਧਿੱਕਾਰ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ, ਜਿਸਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਘਾਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ!’
 ²³ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲੱਗੇ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
 ²⁴ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਬਹਿਸ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
 ²⁵ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਗ਼ੈਰ-ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਰਦਾਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੱਤਾਧਾਰੀ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਖਵਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

 ²⁶ ਪਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੰਝ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ! ਸਗੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮਹਾਨ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟਾ ਬਣੇ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਨੇਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣੇ।
 ²⁷ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ? ਜੋ ਮੇਜ਼ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਉਸਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਕੀ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜੋ ਮੇਜ਼ ’ਤੇ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ? ਪਰੰਤੂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹਾਂ।”
 ²⁸ “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਹ ਹੋ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਪਰੀਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ।
 ²⁹ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
 ³⁰ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਜ਼ ਤੇ ਖਾਵੋ ਪੀਵੋ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ-ਗੱਦੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਕੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਬੀਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰੋ।”
 ³¹ “ਸਿਮੋਨ, ਸਿਮੋਨ! ਵੇਖ, ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਨੇ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਕਣਕ ਵਾਂਗ ਛੱਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਛੱਟੇ
 ³² ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਮਾਨ ਖੁਸ ਨਾ ਜਾਵੇ। ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਆਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਨਾ।”
 ³³ ਸਿਮੋਨ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੈਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੱਕ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ।’

 ³⁴ ਉਸਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਪਤਰਸ, ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਕੁੱਕੜ ਦੇ ਬਾਂਗ ਦੇਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਾਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।’
 ³⁵ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਬਟੂਏ, ਥੈਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਘੱਲਿਆ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੀ ਥੁੜ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ?” ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ।’
 ³⁶ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪਰ ਹੁਣ, ਜਿਸਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਟੂਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਲਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਥੈਲਾ ਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਵੇਚ ਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਖਰੀਦ ਲਵੇ।
 ³⁷ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਲਿਖਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਣੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ, ‘ਉਸਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।’ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।”
 ³⁸ ਤਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਵੇਖੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਇੱਥੇ ਦੋ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਹਨ।’ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਬਸ, ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਹੈ।’
 ³⁹ ਯਿਸੂ ਬਾਹਰ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਸਤੂਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੈਤੂਨ ਪਹਾੜ ਵੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਚਲ ਪਏ।
 ⁴⁰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰੋ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪਰਤਾਵੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾ ਪਵੋ।’
 ⁴¹ ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਢੇਮ ਸੁੱਟਣ ਦੀ ਦੂਰੀ ਤੱਕ ਪਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ, ਗੋਡੇ ਟੇਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ,
 ⁴² ‘ਬਾਪ, ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਚਾਹੋ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਹਟਾ ਲਵੋ। ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ।’
 ⁴³ ਤਦ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਸਵਰਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਫਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਵਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
 ⁴⁴ ਮਰਨ-ਪੀੜਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਜੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਪਸੀਨਾ ਲਹੂ ਦੇ ਤੁਬਕੇ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਡਿੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ।
 ⁴⁵ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸੁੱਤੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ
 ⁴⁶ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਸੌਂਦੇ ਹੋ? ਉੱਠੋ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰੋ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪਰਤਾਵੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾ ਪਵੋ।’
 ⁴⁷ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਜੇ ਉਹ ਬੋਲ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਭੀੜ ਆ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ, ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਸੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਚੁੰਮਣ ਲਈ ਉਸਦੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਆਇਆ।
 ⁴⁸ ਪਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਯਹੂਦਾਹ, ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੂੰਹ ਚੁੰਮ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਘਾਤ ਕਰੇਗਾ?’
 ⁴⁹ ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਪਈ ਕੀ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਕੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਚਲਾਈਏ?’
 ⁵⁰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਨੇ ਮਹਾ-ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ ਦੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਸੱਜਾ ਕੰਨ ਵੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
 ⁵¹ ਪਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਬੱਸ ਕਰੋ, ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ!’ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਕੰਨ ਛੂਹ ਕੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
 ⁵² ਫਿਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ-ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤਾਂ, ਹੈਕਲ ਦੇ ਕਪਤਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਫੜਨ ਲਈ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਠੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਏ ਹੋ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਡਾਕੂ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ?
 ⁵³ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਹੈਕਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਨਾ ਪਾਇਆ। ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਮਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ।’
 ⁵⁴ ਤਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਗਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਹਾ-ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪਹੁੰਚਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਪਤਰਸ ਕੁਝ ਦੂਰੀ ਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ-ਪਿੱਛੇ ਗਿਆ।
 ⁵⁵ ਜਦੋਂ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਹੜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਗ ਬਾਲ ਕੇ ਆਲ਼ੇ ਦੁਆਲ਼ੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਬੈਠ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ ਪਤਰਸ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠ ਗਿਆ।
 ⁵⁶ ਤਦ ਇੱਕ ਨੌਕਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਦੀ ਲੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਨੀਝ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਇਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੀ।’
 ⁵⁷ ਪਰ ਉਸਨੇ, ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ, ‘ਬੀਬੀ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।’
 ⁵⁸ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਚਿਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਤੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ।’ ਪਰ ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਜਨਾਬ, ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।’
 ⁵⁹ ਤਕਰੀਬਨ ਇੱਕ ਘੰਟੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਜੋਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਇਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਗਲੀਲੀ ਹੈ।’
 ⁶⁰ ਪਰ ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਜਨਾਬ, ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੀ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ।’ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਜੇ ਉਹ ਬੋਲ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਕੁੱਕੜ ਨੇ ਬਾਂਗ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ
 ⁶¹ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਪਿਛਾਂਹ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਪਤਰਸ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ। ਤਦ ਪਤਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਵਚਨ ਯਾਦ ਆਏ, ਜੋ ਉਸਨੇ ਕਹੇ ਸਨ, ‘ਅੱਜ ਕੁੱਕੜ ਦੇ ਬਾਂਗ ਦੇਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਾਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰੇਗਾ।’
 ⁶² ਉਹ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਢਾਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਰੋਇਆ।
 ⁶³ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਉਸਦਾ ਮਖੌਲ ਉਡਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
 ⁶⁴ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੱਟੀ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ‘ਨਬੂਵਤ ਕਰ! ਕਿਸਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ?’
 ⁶⁵ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਈ ਬੁਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਅਪਮਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
 ⁶⁶ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਿਨ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਕੌਮ ਦੇ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੱਠਜੋੜ, ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ-ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ, ਧਰਮ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਭਾ (ਸਾਨਹੇਡਰੀਨ) ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ,
 ⁶⁷ ‘ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮਸੀਹ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੋ।’ ਪਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਾਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੰਨੋਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ
 ⁶⁸ ਅਤੇ ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਲ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉੱਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਵੋਗੇ।
 ⁶⁹ ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਤੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦੇ ਸੱਜੇ ਬੈਠੇਗਾ।’
 ⁷⁰ ਤਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਫਿਰ ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾ ਬੇਟਾ ਹੈ?’ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਹਾਂ।’
 ⁷¹ ਤਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਸਬੂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ? ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪ ਇਸਦੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਸੁਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।’

 ¹ ਤਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀ ਉੱਠੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਲੈ ਗਈ।
 ² ਉਹ, ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਉਣ ਲੱਗੇ, ‘ਅਸੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਕੌਮ ਨੂੰ ਗਲਤ ਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੈਸਰ ਨੂੰ ਟੈਕਸ ਦੇਣ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮਨ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਆਪ ਮਸੀਹ ਹੈ, ਇੱਕ ਰਾਜਾ।’
 ³ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ‘ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ?’ ਉਸਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ‘ਇਹ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ।’
 ⁴ ਤਦ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ-ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਭੀੜ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਦੋਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ।’
 ⁵ ਪਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਜੋਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਲੇ, ‘ਇਹ ਤਮਾਮ ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਗਲੀਲ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ - ਜਿੱਥੇ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੱਕ, ਸਿਖਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੜਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।’
 ⁶ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ‘ਕੀ ਇਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਗਲੀਲ ਦਾ ਹੈ?’
 ⁷ ਉਸਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਹੇਰੋਦੀਸ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ-ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਹੇਰੋਦੀਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਘੱਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਯੇਰੂਸ਼ਲੇਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਸੀ।
 ⁸ ਜਦੋਂ ਹੇਰੋਦੀਸ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਹ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਚਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਚਮਤਕਾਰ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਸੀ।
 ⁹ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਵਾਲ ਪੁੱਛੇ। ਪਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਤਰ ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
 ¹⁰ ਉੱਥੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ-ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ-ਗ੍ਰੰਥੀ ਬੜੇ ਜੋਰ-ਸ਼ੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
 ¹¹ ਹੇਰੋਦੀਸ ਨੇ ਵੀ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਉਸਦਾ ਅਪਮਾਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਭੈੜਾ ਸਲੂਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਖੌਲ ਉਡਾਇਆ। ਫਿਰ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸੱਜ-ਧੱਜ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪੁਆ ਕੇ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਕੋਲ ਵਾਪਸ ਘੱਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
 ¹² ਉਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਹੇਰੋਦੀਸ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਆਪੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋਸਤ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣੀ ਸੀ।
 ¹³ ਤਦ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ-ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ
 ¹⁴ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਹ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਲਤ ਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ ਵੇਖੋ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਅਦ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਦੋਸ਼ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ।
 ¹⁵ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਹੇਰੋਦੀਸ ਨੇ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸਨੇ ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਵਾਪਸ ਘੱਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਵੇਖੋ, ਇਸ ਨੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਲਾਇਕ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
 ¹⁶ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਰੜੇ ਮਰਵਾ ਕੇ ਰਿਹਾਅ ਕਰ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ।’
 ¹⁷ ਰਾਜਪਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਕੈਦੀ ਰਿਹਾਅ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
 ¹⁸ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰੌਲ਼ਾ ਪਾਉਣ ਲੱਗੇ, ‘ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਫ਼ਾ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਬੱਰਆਬੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਹਾਅ ਕਰ ਦਿਓ।’
 ¹⁹ ਬੱਰਆਬੱਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਗਾਵਤ ਚਾਲੂ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਤਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੈਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
 ²⁰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਹਾਅ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਫਿਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
 ²¹ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਜੋਰਦਾਰ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਬੋਲੇ, ‘ਇਸਨੂੰ ਸਲੀਬ ਦਿਓ, ਇਸਨੂੰ ਸਲੀਬ ਦਿਓ!’
 ²² ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਨੇ ਤੀਜੀ ਵਾਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਕਿਉਂ ਇਸਨੇ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ? ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਲਾਇਕ ਕੋਈ ਜੁਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਕੋਰੜੇ ਮਰਵਾ ਕੇ ਰਿਹਾਅ ਕਰ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ।’
 ²³ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਕਾਹਲੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੋਰ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸਲੀਬ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਵਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਹਾਵੀ ਹੋਈਆਂ।
 ²⁴ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਨੇ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਪੂਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ।
 ²⁵ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਹਾਅ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜੋ ਬਗਾਵਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਤਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੈਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸਦੇ ਲਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
 ²⁶ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੇਹਾਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਸਾਯਰੀਨ ਦੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਸਿਮੋਨ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਲੀਬ ਲੱਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੈ ਚੱਲੇ।
 ²⁷ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੀ ਭੀੜ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ-ਪਿੱਛੇ ਚਲ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਸਨ, ਜੋ ਉਸਦੇ ਲਈ ਰੋਂਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
 ²⁸ ਪਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਯੇਰੂਸ਼ਲੇਮ ਦੀਓ ਧੀਓ, ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਨਾ ਰੋਵੋ, ਸਗੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਿਆਂ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਰੋਵੋ
 ²⁹ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਵੇਖੋ, ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਲੋਕ ਕਹਿਣਗੇ, ‘ਧੰਨ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਬਾਂਝ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਕੁੱਖਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੱਚਾ ਧਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਛਾਤੀਆਂ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੁੱਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੁੰਘਾਇਆ!’
 ³⁰ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਲੋਕ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨਗੇ, ‘ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਵੋ’ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਾੜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ, ‘ਸਾਨੂੰ ਲੁਕਾ ਲਵੋ।’
 ³¹ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਹਰੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਲੂਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਸੁੱਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ?”
 ³² ਉਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੋ ਹੋਰ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ, ਜੋ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਸਨ, ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
 ³³ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ‘ਖੋਪੜੀ’ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਤਾਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸਲੀਬ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ, ਇੱਕ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੇ ਖੱਬੇ ਪਾਸੇ।
 ³⁴ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਐ ਬਾਪ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਫ਼ ਕਰ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।’ ਫਿਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਵੰਡਣ ਲਈ ਗੁਣੇ ਪਾਏ।
 ³⁵ ਲੋਕ ਲਾਗੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਪਰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ, ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਠੱਠੇ ਕੀਤੇ, ‘ਇਸਨੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਇਆ। ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾ ਮਸੀਹ ਹੈ, ਉਸਦਾ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਵੇ।’
 ³⁶ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਉਸਦਾ ਮਖੌਲ ਉਡਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਕੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ
 ³⁷ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ‘ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ।’
 ³⁸ ਉਸਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ, ਇੱਕ ਲਿਖਤ ਵੀ ਸੀ, ‘ਇਹ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ।’ (ਇਹ ਯੂਨਾਨੀ, ਲਾਤੀਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਬਰਾਨੀ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।)
 ³⁹ ਸਲੀਬਾਂ ਤੇ ਲਟਕਾਏ ਗਏ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਉਸਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ‘ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਮਸੀਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ? ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵੀ!’
 ⁴⁰ ਪਰ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਡਾਂਟਿਆ, ‘ਕੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ? ਤੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਹੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਝੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
 ⁴¹ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਜਾਇਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਦਾ ਫਲ਼ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਗਲਤ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।’
 ⁴² ਫਿਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਯਿਸੂ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜ-ਸੱਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਓ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ।’
 ⁴³ ਤਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਅੱਜ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਵਰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।’
 ⁴⁴ ਹੁਣ ਲਗਭਗ ਦੁਪਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਜੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਤੱਕ, ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ, ਹਨੇਰਾ ਛਾ ਗਿਆ,
 ⁴⁵ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੀ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਰਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੈਕਲ ਦਾ ਪਰਦਾ ਪਾਟ ਕੇ ਦੋ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
 ⁴⁶ ਤਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਐ ਬਾਪ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੌਂਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ!’ ਇਹ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
 ⁴⁷ ਹੁਣ ਜਦ ਸੂਬੇਦਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਭ, ਜੋ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ ਸੀ, ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਇਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਨਿਰਦੋਸ਼ ਸੀ!’
 ⁴⁸ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੀੜ ਇਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਉੱਥੇ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਵੇਖੀਆਂ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਪਿੱਟਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਵਾਪਸ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਗਏ।
 ⁴⁹ ਉਸਦੀ ਜਾਣ ਪਛਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ, ਗਲੀਲ ਤੋਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਈਆਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਸਣੇ, ਦੂਰ ਖਲੋ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
 ⁵⁰ ਉੱਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਨੇਕ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਯੂਸਫ਼ ਸੀ; ਉਹ ਸਾਨਹੇਡਰੀਨ ਸਭਾ ਦਾ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਤਾਂ ਸੀ,
 ⁵¹ ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਓਂਤ ਅਤੇ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਅਰਿਮਥਿਆ ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ।
 ⁵² ਇਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਿਲਾਤੂਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੀ ਲਾਸ਼ ਮੰਗੀ।
 ⁵³ ਉਸਨੇ ਲਾਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਹ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮਲਮਲ ਦੇ ਕਫ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਪੇਟ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਕਬਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਫ਼ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜੋ ਚਟਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਦਵਾਈ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
 ⁵⁴ ਉਹ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਬਤ ਆਰੰਭ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
 ⁵⁵ ਜੋ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਲੀਲ ਤੋਂ ਆਈਆਂ ਸਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ-ਪਿੱਛੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
 ⁵⁶ ਫਿਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੁਗੰਧਿਤ ਮਸਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਪ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੇ।

 ¹ When they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
 ² and said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat; untie it and bring it.
 ³ If any one says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’ ”
 ⁴ And they went away, and found a colt tied at the door out in the open street; and they untied it.
 ⁵ And those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?”
 ⁶ And they told them what Jesus had said; and they let them go.
 ⁷ And they brought the colt to Jesus, and threw their garments on it; and he sat upon it.
 ⁸ And many spread their garments on the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields.
 ⁹ And those who went before and those who followed cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
 ¹⁰ Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming! Hosanna in the highest!”

 ¹⁷ And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves;
 ¹⁸ for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
 ¹⁹ And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
 ²⁰ And likewise the cup after supper, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.

 ³⁶ He said to them, “But now, let him who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag. And let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy one.
 ³⁷ For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, ‘And he was reckoned with transgressors’; for what is written about me has its fulfilment.”
 ³⁸ And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.”


 ³⁹ And he came out, and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples followed him.
 ⁴⁰ And when he came to the place he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
 ⁴¹ And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed,
 ⁴² “Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”
 ⁴³-44 45And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow,
 ⁴⁶ and he said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”


 ⁴⁷ While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him;
 ⁴⁸ but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of man with a kiss?”
 ⁴⁹ And when those who were about him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”
 ⁵⁰ And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
 ⁵¹ But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him.
 ⁵² Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?
 ⁵³ When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”

54 Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest's house. Peter followed at a distance;
 ⁵⁵ and when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.
 ⁵⁶ Then a maid, seeing him as he sat in the light and gazing at him, said, “This man also was with him.”
 ⁵⁷ But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.”
 ⁵⁸ And a little later some one else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.”
 ⁵⁹ And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him; for he is a Galilean.”
 ⁶⁰ But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed.
 ⁶¹ And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the cock crows today, you will deny me three times.”
 ⁶² And he went out and wept bitterly.


 ⁶³ Now the men who were holding Jesus mocked him and beat him;
 ⁶⁴ they also blindfolded him and asked him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?”
 ⁶⁵ And they spoke many other words against him, reviling him.


 ⁶⁶ When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away to their council, and they said,
 ⁶⁷ “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe;
 ⁶⁸ and if I ask you, you will not answer.
 ⁶⁹ But from now on the Son of man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”
 ⁷⁰ And they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.”
 ⁷¹ And they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”


 ¹ Then the whole company of them arose, and brought him before Pilate.
 ² And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.”
 ³ And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”
 ⁴ And Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no crime in this man.”
 ⁵ But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.”

6 When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.
 ⁷ And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time.
 ⁸ When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him.
 ⁹ So he questioned him at some length; but he made no answer.
 ¹⁰ The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.
 ¹¹ And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then, arraying him in gorgeous apparel, he sent him back to Pilate.
 ¹² And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.


 ¹³ Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
 ¹⁴ and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was perverting the people; and after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him;
 ¹⁵ neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Behold, nothing deserving death has been done by him;
 ¹⁶ I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
 ¹⁷


 ¹⁸ But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas” —
 ¹⁹a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city, and for murder.
 ²⁰ Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus;
 ²¹ but they shouted out, “Crucify, crucify him!”
 ²² A third time he said to them, “Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no crime deserving death; I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
 ²³ But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.
 ²⁴ So Pilate gave sentence that their demand should be granted.
 ²⁵ He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.


 ²⁶ And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus.
 ²⁷ And there followed him a great multitude of the people, and of women who bewailed and lamented him.
 ²⁸ But Jesus turning to them said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
 ²⁹ For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never gave suck!’
 ³⁰ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us’; and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’
 ³¹ For if they do this when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”


 ³² Two others also, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him.
 ³³ And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left.
 ³⁴ And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
 ³⁵ And the people stood by, watching; but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!”
 ³⁶ The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him vinegar,
 ³⁷ and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”
 ³⁸ There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.”


 ³⁹ One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”
 ⁴⁰ But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
 ⁴¹ And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”
 ⁴² And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
 ⁴³ And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”


 ⁴⁴ It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,
 ⁴⁵ while the sun's light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
 ⁴⁶ Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.
 ⁴⁷ Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, and said, “Certainly this man was innocent!”
 ⁴⁸ And all the multitudes who assembled to see the sight, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts.
 ⁴⁹ And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance and saw these things.


 ⁵⁰ Now there was a man named Joseph from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man,
 ⁵¹ who had not consented to their purpose and deed, and he was looking for the kingdom of God.
 ⁵² This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
 ⁵³ Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud, and laid him in a rock-hewn tomb, where no one had ever yet been laid.
 ⁵⁴ It was the day of Preparation, and the sabbath was beginning. 
 ⁵⁵ The women who had come with him from Galilee followed, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid;
 ⁵⁶ then they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. On the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
